August 14, 2006. Annap0Iis R0yaI. We arrived at our B&B right around teatime, and our hostess made us a lovely tray with delicious refreshments. I took the opportunity to update my paper diary in the parlour while I sipped my tea, and then had a nap in our room. We unfortunately missed dinner, as everything closes early there and the concert was at 7 p.m., but the biscuits sustained us until afterwards when we wended our way to a local pub with some of our fellow audience members.

The concert was again very good, and this time our friends played an encore, a short piece by Bart0k which was like a breath of fresh air after all that Bach and Mozart. Unfortunately, they were not able to come out drinking with us as the woman at whose house they were billeted was rather unmovable about sharing them. That kind of sucked.

The next morning it was raining, the first such all week. We wandered around in downtown Annap0Iis R0yaI, and I ended up in a pottery shop chatting with the artisans (a married couple who do beautiful work), where I purchased a beautiful piece of art (a flounder, actually) which I asked to be mailed (as I feared it getting broken in my suitcase). I hope it arrives soon, as tomorrow is our anniversary and I was planning to present it to Hubby as a token of my continuing love. We also did a quick tour of Fort Anne, but it was very dreary and we didn't have appropriate weather gear. We crossed the sound to P0rt R0yaI where we explored the Habitation, a reconstructed fort. None of this was very much fun, as the rain continued to pour down, so we got back in the car and headed cross-country to Antig0nish, a four-hour drive.

Our lodgings were impressive, and the accompanying breakfast quite nice. That evening we spent at Hubby's aunt and uncle's where we had a lively dinner with them and his youngest cousin. Isabelle kept putting food on her nephew's plate, whether he wanted it or not. The next morning we had a very pleasant hike on the Fairm0nt Ridge (we made the loop in mauve, close to 5 km total) and then cooled our feet in the water of Mah0ney's Beach. Whereas the day before had been sodden and cold, this particular outing was blessed with warm sunshine.

Then we lunched with Hubby's other aunt and uncle, spending many lively hours at their house, before driving back to HaIifax, catching our flight home, and getting to sleep (finally) in our own bed.
