Elgan speaks
...and her words thunder across the land

Yule be sorry!

Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008
4:40 p.m.
‘Twas the night before Crimbo
and all through the land
not a blogger was blogging,
not lifting a hand.

The comments stopped flowing,
as if no one cared,
and no one was bothered
to see how his blog fared.

I, too, had decided
to give it a rest
and spend time with family
in our warm, cosy nest.

The shopping was done,
the tree was adorned,
the Yule log was burning.
“It’s hot!” the mom warned.

The Hannukah candles
were lit every eve,
the blessings were sung,
with no need to believe.

Traditions we keep,
forgetting their starts.
It really doesn’t matter;
it’s the love in our hearts

that makes this season
so important to all.
So eat, drink, be merry.
Try to avoid the mall.

Enjoy family and friends
this holiday tide,
and when the bills come,
please avoid suicide.

This was our view of the bird feeder the other day. I have never seen this particular variety of bird there before (the one on the right; the one on the left is a black-capped chickadee) and I had to look it up in the bird book. Here’s a zoomed-in view:

I know what it is. Do you?
