Spam, wonderful spam!

I have several email accounts, which I suppose is par for the course these days, one of which is my everyday one, one is my “official” work email, one is the gmail account my daughter invited me to get (I rarely use that one), and then there’s the email address that you can access by clicking on the link in the margin of this site. I made that one, as you can tell from the name of the addressee, especially for my diary, but I have learned recently that spammers have a way of finding embedded email addresses in templates and using them for their nefarious purposes.

This would explain why I have been receiving so much junkmail in that particular folder at that account. No matter how often I empty it, it soon fills up again with subject lines advertising viagra, computer programs, penis extenders and anything else my little heart does not desire. As I said, most of this stuff ends up in the junkmail folder and I never have to bother with it. However, every so often, like once a day, something sneaks by the spam filter and ends up in my in-box, which is a disappointment because I get the alert that I have mail and I get all excited, and then find that it’s garbage.

This morning I was informed that I had mail, only to find this in my in-box: “Want to find a fuck-friend?” Well, no, I don’t want to find a fuck-friend--I already have a husband whose services in that department are non pareil--just as I’m not interested in the drugs and aphrodisiacs and penis enlargers and all the other crap that comes to my spam folder. While sometimes I get a laugh out of the subject lines of these attempts at parting me from my money, most often they are mere annoyances. A friend told me that spam was always up during the holiday season, perhaps because people are more desperate to be parted from their lucre then than at other times of the year, but it is no less irksome knowing this.

I guess I should be grateful that the spam filter catches as much as it does. But even my work email inbox has been full of crap lately, and I don’t have that one listed anywhere. Oh wait, I do, it’s on my bio page at my place of employment’s website. Hmmm. What to do, what to do?
