Little Princess BF is off to summer camp (watch me jump for joy, boys and girls) as a counsellor until the end of August. I drove him to the bus station this morning, since he stayed over last night, the two of them taking a cab home from their friends place where the after-prom party was supposed to be taking place, but obviously wasnt.

BF had been offered a job in Montreal for the summer, staying at his uncles place, but turned it down because he didnt want to leave Lville for two reasons: a) Little Princess, and b) he had the lead in Shaws Arms and the Man, the production of which is the summer project of a woman who was in my goddess class last semester (a graduate of the National Theatre School who has been around a fair bit). In the meantime, Little Princess found herself gainful employment as a telemarketer (oy again), all his friends were leaving town to take jobs ailleurs, and he found himself with absolutely nothing to do during the daytime and rehearsing at night.

Suddenly, out of the blue, his friend Chris called him and said that there was an opening for a counsellor at this camp he was working at, and he could start right away. So he had a dilemma: leave for the summer to take a job where he was earning less than he had hoped but wouldnt have to spend any money at all on room and board, or stay without employment, mooching off his friends and girlfriends family, so he could continue to be in this play. My advice was that he should go for the job. Of course, I have ulterior motives here but I still felt this was the best action for him. After all, the play was purely voluntary, he hadnt signed any contract, and he is truly penniless.

It turned out the director was not pleased. She called here looking for him, and I could just tell from the tightness in her voice that she was on the verge of losing it. She said some really mean things to him over the phone, which belied her 35-year-old supposed maturity. BFs mother was also not pleased with this turn of events, since the director is a friend of the family and BF had already turned down the offer to live at his uncles and take the job in Montreal in order to take the play. But then he thought he would be able to find a job in town.

So, the kids went to his prom last night and apparently had a really wonderful time. I drove BF to the bus station to catch his bus to Joliette, took Little Princess to work and then headed on to the mall, figuring it wouldnt be too crazy on a Saturday morning. I found a cute sundress on sale for $25, and dropped considerably more at the leather store on a gorgeous black vest which was marked down by at least half. I meandered in and out of clothing stores, looking for cheap cute summer dresses, and left disappointed for the most part because nothing appeals to me. At one place were some extremely low-priced adorable dresses that looked really good on me, except that they have open backs, and I cannot go bra-less. So they were out. Sigh.

And that is that.
