Fabric, food, and asphalt

The weather has not been encouraging. It rained all day yesterday, and it looked like today was going to follow suit until the sun finally came out mid-afternoon and stayed there. Heres hoping tomorrow is more seasonal.

Patsy and I finally made our trip to Fabricville after a couple of aborted attempts. I picked her up from her chiropractors and we spent a merry hour or so looking through pattern books and then fingering the merchandise.

She chose a beautiful green faux suede for a long-sleeved, full-skirted dress, and a burgundy raw silk for an A-line skirt. Shes found herself a sewing lady, and is planning on getting rid of clothes that she no longer wears and revamping her wardrobe. I bought patterns for a summer dress and a chinese-style, form-fitting sheath, finding a dark green calico cotton print for the former and a royal purple satin for the latter. It is absolutely gorgeous, with silver, green and red motifs woven throughout. So I have some sewing projects to start working on.

Neither of us had eaten lunch and were starting to suffer from low blood sugar. We got to our restaurant of choice, only to discover that its kitchen closed at 2:30 and it was now 3:15. So we crossed the parking lot to Casa Grecque and ate there. We were so ravenous that we fairly attacked the bread basket when it appeared. Even being so hungry, I was still not able to finish all the food on my plate (servings were rather reasonable, I thought) and felt a little guilty pushing it away. Still, I have learned that gluttony is rewarded by overweight, and Im not going down that road again.

Talk of getting our driveway paved has been going on for years, but it looks like its finally going to happen. The pavage guy was in the neighbourhood last night and gave us his card, plus an estimate and the addresses of some houses in the area we could check out. So we did that and have decided to engage his company to widen and pave our driveway. They wont be able to do it until later this summer, but as long as its done before the snow flies we dont care. It will really make a difference come the first snow fall. I dont really want to think of that right now. It seems that Im finally getting warm again.
