Elgan speaks
...and her words thunder across the land

More numb bum.

7:02 a.m.
In just over 40 hours, we put another 1600 km on the car. It’s insanity.

On Monday, Buddy Boy took apart his desk, boxed his computer, packed up all this things, and loaded them in the car. Thankfully he left behind his bass and bass amp, as they take up a lot of space--we’ll bring them to him at Thanksgiving--but the Subaru was still stuffed to the gills, including the rooftop carrier.

The trip itself was long and boring (as usual). We didn’t give Buddy Boy the opportunity to practise highway driving as visibility was limited, so once more Hubby and I split it. We left L’ville about about 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday and arrived at Buddy Boy’s townhouse at around 5:00 p.m., unloaded his gear, helped his roommates move their gear (the room he had occupied in May still had his TV and futon in it and the room he was moving into wasn’t cleared out yet because the guy who’d been subletting it was in the process of moving to the house next door) and in the process I dusted the things that had been left behind and were now being retrieved. I placed a container of pesto and a loaf of homemade bread in Buddy Boy’s fridge, and then we took him out for supper, meeting up with his sister and her boyfriend.

After dropping our son back at his place (with his sister’s vacuum cleaner) we drove the hour to Hubby’s parents’ where we stayed the night. The next morning we drove to the next town to see his brother, then to another town to see an old high school friend of his, then back to T.O. for a quick visit with my mom before heading down the long and dusty trail again, this time able to see out the rear windows of the car.

Hubby and I hadn’t eaten and we were pretty hungry by this time (2:15 p.m.), so we took my mother to a burger joint where we got her a cup of tea and we ate veggie burgers and drank root beer. She was more confused than ever yesterday, but enjoyed seeing us nonetheless. By 3:30 p.m. we were back on the road heading east, and arrived at our humble abode at 11 p.m., which is actually very good time.

The energy drink I had around 5:00 kept me up, but I laid my head on my pillow anyway and eventually slept. To think we have to do this drive, or something like it, in two weeks is daunting.
