Refiner’s Fire

Messiah is a marathon. I always knew that. We had our first rehearsal with the orchestra tonight. Until someone got the bright idea to put monitors behind the choir, the sopranos were constantly under pitch because they couldn’t hear the strings. It’s the acoustics in the hall. There’s nothing else for it.

Also, I discovered that the footwear I had been planning on using isn’t going to cut it. We don’t get to sit down at all, not during the orchestral interludes, not during the solos. We are standing for the whole two and-a-half hours. So I’ve changed my mind. It’ll have to be flats, even if it means I can’t see so well.

And that’s all the news that fit to sing.
