It’s official, BUshop’s staff are on strike. You can go to the union webpage for the press release that was sent out at midnight. So far management has not locked the rest of us out. We have no idea what they might do. Hubby went down early and joined in the first shift of picketers. It’s been raining off and on, which is uncomfortable, but better than the heat we experienced yesterday.

Yesterday was indeed extremely hot. Buddy Boy is working at a camp for francophones who are intent on speaking only English for three weeks and needed some things from the mall: new running shoes, socks, an extra bathing suit. Hubby wanted to buy a pre-amp for our turntable and get his tennis racket restrung, so the three of us hopped in the car (thank the gourd for AC). Hubby left us at the mall and we agreed to meet at a particular café when we were done; whoever arrived first would wait for the next guy.

It was 1:45 p.m. when we got out of the car and went into the shoe store. It was 2:35 p.m. when we sat down at a little table in the mall by the fountain. Hubby, who had been so certain he was going to beat us to the rendezvous point, didn’t arrive there until 3:20 p.m. It gives a whole new meaning to the expression “I’m always waiting for you!”

I also finally booked our flights to the UK. We leave on July 26 and come back 15 days later. Originally we thought we would be going slightly later since Hubby thought he had a gig on July 31, but it turns out to be on July 10 instead. It’s becoming a very expensive summer.

We had an amazing thunderstorm last night. At one point I sat on the porch and watched the lightning (Hubby and Buddy Boy had gone to a movie, Little Princess was out with her friends). Suzie came around the side of the house and joined me, rubbing his wet fur all over my back, leaving cat hairs everywhere. I couldn’t tell if he was afraid of the thunder or not, but he sure was clingy, until he was suddenly distracted by a clump of grass and wandered off.

It looks like we’re in for an off-and-on all-day rain. Poor picketers.
