Happy Birthday, Linda!

9:22 a.m.
Hubby, whose birthday is actually several days hence and who turns the auspicious age of 50 this time around the sun, finally left the house at 8 p.m., when he was supposed to be having his band practice, and I was shooing people away from the front door, whispering, “He’s not gone yet!” Finally the coast was clear, and the invited guests were able to enter the house, where they ate and drank and had a party (on the invitations I labeled it an end-of-classes party as well as a surprise birthday party) even though the guest of honour didn’t show up for hours.

Finally, at 9:30 or thereabouts, Kevin O called and said that they were finally packing up and on their way, and Buddy Boy (who was standing outside with his friends in the cold so he could warn us when his dad arrived) entered the house just ahead of Hubby, accompanied by the drummer and bassist, whose 50th birthday (which was on Monday) Hubby thought he was celebrating. Everyone stayed quiet in the living room and dining room and Hubby, upon noticing all the shoes in the hallway, said something about Buddy Boy having a lot of friends over. I actually had to push him into the dining room and turn the light on, with all our guests shouting the classic “Surprise!” before he realized that it was a party for him.

After that there was more eating and drinking and revelry, and birthday cake, and people, thankfully, did not stay too late. Hubby was very apologetic about taking so long to get home. He said that if he had known there was a party, he would have finished the rehearsal sooner. I’m slightly pissed at Kevin, who was supposed to get the ball moving a little earlier, but then I should remember that this is Kevin. Oh well. In the end, it was a lot of fun.

In the meantime, today is zitagsd’s birthday. Go over there and say hi!
