9:44 p.m.
At approximately 3:30 p.m. the hot water pipe thawed and I was able to run the dishwasher. Hubby arrived home with a Brumalia shrubbery just as I was about to start making supper, and mayhem ensued as we ran around the house looking for the necessary implements of destruction: saw, drill, secateurs, the stand for the tree, et cetera. Once it was in place and firmly anchored, I gave it about six litres of water and got onto the more important business of cooking. Well get the ornaments put up before the 25th I figure. In the meantime, we now have a lovely wreath on the front door, with is our sole external decoration.

Hubby had quite the adventure finding the shrubbery. First he tried the Provigo parking lot, then he went to the place we have patronised for years, just around the corner on Woodward Hill, but it was closed up tight and no one was around. So he went to Clark et fils, and they put their collective thinking caps on and said he should try the Sherwin-Williams paint store. There were still a few trees left in the parking lot, $15 apiece, the proceeds going to charity. So he picked out a likely candidate, strapped it onto the roof rack and brought it home. It now stands, sucking up water happily, next to the woodstove which has been blazing merrily all day in a feeble attempt to warm up this freezing house.

The weatherman has promised us more seasonal temperatures soon, and I sincerely hope he is not mistaken. Im cold as hell and Im not going to take it anymore!
